The Hallmark Channel's roots go back to two religious cable channels ACTS (American Christian Television System) and VISN(Vision Interfaith Satellite Network). The two networks alternated time on the Satellite Galaxy III in 1992. In 1993 they relaunched as The Faith and Values Channel and began showing some secular programming. In 1995 TCI's Liberty Media acquired 49% ownership and took operational control adding more secular content. In 1996 the network was rebranded to Odyssey Network. In 1998 The Jim Henson Company and Hallmark Entertainment had purchased significant stakes in Odyssey eventually under the new ownership structure the channel underwent a revitalization focusing more on family entertainment, classic sitcoms, variety entertainment, children's programs and Wednesday nights began showing classic Hall of Fame productions. In 2000, Odyssey was reorganized into Crown Media Holdings Hallmark received all of Crown Media's shares giving it the control of Crown Media. In March of 2001 it was announced that Odyssey would rebrand as Hallmark Channel on August 6. The channel's launch programming included a miniseries, acquired programming and a new schedule of original movies. Scroll down for full list.
